Rabies Outbreak Raises Concerns in Eastern, Northeastern, and Southern Regions with Animal Infections Detected
From January 1 to February 20, 2019, a rabies outbreak has been reported as particularly severe in the eastern, northeastern, and southern regions, with one human death in Rayong province and 50 infected animals, mostly dogs, found through random sampling nationwide. Authorities warn against handling or consuming raw meat from animals that have died of unknown causes, especially cattle, due to the risk of rabies transmission. Pet owners are urged to monitor their animals for symptoms such as lethargy, aggression, drooling, or staggering and to ensure annual vaccinations. Immediate medical attention is advised if bitten or scratched, including thorough wound washing and vaccination. The government emphasizes public cooperation and adherence to safety guidelines to prevent further spread.
