Peru’s Pineapple Exports Decline in January 2026 Amid Market Concentration and Shift to Higher-Value Products
In January 2026, Peru exported 1,228 tons of pineapples valued at $3.6 million, marking an 18% drop in volume and a 17% decrease in value compared to January 2025. Despite a slight 1% increase in average price to $2.90 per kilogram, lower volumes led to reduced total export revenue. The United States remained the dominant market, accounting for 95% of export value, followed by Chile and the Netherlands. Dehydrated pineapple led in export value with 41% share and a high average price of $12.54 per kilogram, highlighting a shift towards higher value-added products. The sector showed high concentration, with three companies responsible for 80% of exports. Peru’s main production hub is Satipo, Junin, and the sector faces challenges from reduced destinations and competition from tropical producers like Costa Rica and the Philippines, underscoring the need to enhance value-added offerings to boost competitiveness.
